Snetterton next up for Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport

May 23, 2024

Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport head for Snetterton Circuit this weekend as the Norfolk circuit hosts the third round of the 2024 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship.

The team heads into the third round of the season having secured two trips to the podium in the opening weekend at Donington Park before a more turbulent weekend at Brands Hatch saw Jake Hill end the second round 4th in the Drivers' Championship with 59 points.

Travelling from the shortest lap on the calendar to now the longest, Snetterton’s 2.97 mile ‘300 layout’ has been a happy hunting ground for Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport in recent years. In his previous six races at the circuit, Jake Hill has reached the podium on four occasions, all as runner up in second place, and this weekend will be looking to keep the run of form going at the Norfolk circuit.

The BTCC has been visiting Snetterton in Norfolk for over 50 years, and in that time the track has undergone a number of layout changes. A significant investment in 2011 saw the circuit extended into the ‘300’ layout used by the championship today, which includes two of the longest straights in the country. Drawing inspiration from iconic motorsport corners such as Monza’s Parabolica and the Montreal Hairpin, it certainly offers some fantastic viewing for spectators and makes for a popular family weekend.

This weekend, Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport and their WSR-run BMW 330e M Sport will see an added extra element of strategy as the grid will be forced to use all three Goodyear tyre compounds across race day. Along with this, Jake and the team will also have to manage his hybrid deployment with his 4th place championship position meaning he will have 7 Secs/Lap of hybrid in qualifying, deployed at a minimum speed of 130 KPH, with four laps of hybrid to be used in the opening 12-lap race on Sunday.

All three races take place on Sunday, with live coverage available on TikTok, ITV4 and online at ITVX. Sunday’s triple header of races are scheduled to get underway at 11:35 (BST), 14:25 and 17:10 respectively.

"We’ve had a solid start to the season with our podium finishes at Donington Park showing what we are truly capable of. Unfortunately, we had a difficult weekend at Brands Hatch but myself and the team have been working tirelessly to resolve those issues so we can come back fighting at round three this weekend.

The goal for Snetterton is to return to the front of the field and continue our points-scoring momentum. We've shown in the previous years that our Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport BMW performs well at Snetterton and we've had great success there over the previous years.

"With the hybrid allowance and three tyres to use over race day, it’s going to be a strategic weekend with important decisions to make but I'm fully confident in myself and the team that we're ready for the challenge!"
- Jake Hill

"We head to Snetterton in a determined mood after the first two events of the season. Jake and the team showed great resilience despite a tough weekend at Brands and everyone is eager to get back racing this weekend. This year, the BTCC has shown it is as competitive as it has ever been so we need to be firing on all cylinders at every round.
Snetterton has been a happy hunting ground for us in recent times so we head there with high hopes but taking nothing for granted as we know how tight the field is. With the circuit’s mix of high, medium, and low-speed sections, having a well-balanced car is key to a strong weekend - and adding in the hybrid allowance and additional tyre compounds - tactics are likely to play a major role in achieving strong results this weekend." - Mark Blundell
