Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport is poised to commence their Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) title defence at Donington Park this weekend (April 26–27), as reigning Drivers’ Champion Jake Hill returns to the grid in the #1 WSR-run BMW 330i M Sport.
The 2025 campaign marks MB Motorsport’s sixth year in the UK’s premier racing series and the third consecutive year of collaboration between Laser Tools Racing and MB Motorsport. This partnership has yielded significant success, including the 2024 BTCC Drivers’ Championship, 14 wins, and 28 podiums since its inception in 2023.
Once again, the season-opener takes place at the historic Donington Park, utilising its famed National Circuit. Measuring at 1.979 miles, the National layout is known for its fast-flowing nature, with a blend of high-speed challenges and prime overtaking opportunities, making it a favorite among drivers and fans alike. The venue has hosted the past three BTCC season-openers, with Jake Hill finishing on the podium in four of the nine races, including a win and pole position in 2022.
The season-opening round gets underway on Saturday with two practice sessions followed by qualifying at 15.10, which can be watched live on the ITV Sport YouTube channel. All three races take place on Sunday, with live coverage available on ITV4 and online at ITVX. Sunday’s triple header of races are scheduled to get underway at 11:50 (BST), 14.35 and 17.25 respectively. Live timing across the weekend is available here for all sessions.
Jake Hill expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season:
“It’s been a long winter and I’m really excited to finally get back out racing in the BTCC this weekend. With the new rules and regulations coming into play for this season, it’s been a winter of learning for everyone – and we’re discovering more every time we get in the car. Saturday’s practice sessions will be key, and we need to hit the ground running because there’s little to no room for error in this championship. I’ve got great support from Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport and WSR, and I know how hard everyone in the team is working to make sure we can defend our BTCC Championship title.”
Mark Blundell, Sporting Director of Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport, shared his thoughts on the upcoming season and highlighted the importance of partner support:
“It’s always a huge moment to get the season underway, and lining up on the grid as defending champions brings a real sense of pride for everyone involved. A tremendous amount of work has gone on behind the scenes over the winter to get us to this point, and I’d like to thank all of our partners for their continued support in helping make that possible. We know the challenge ahead won’t be easy, but the team is motivated, focused, and ready to give everything to make it another successful campaign.”
