Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport will take to the Donington Park GP configuration this weekend, as the BTCC uses the layout for the first time since 2002, and Jake and the team aim to keep their double victory momentum from Knockhill rolling into round eight of the 2023 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship.
Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport will make the trip to Donington Park for the third time this season, with the venue playing host to the season-opener on the National configuration as well as the Goodyear Tyre Test at the beginning of July which allowed the drivers their first taste of the GP layout.
Last time out at Knockhill, Laser Tools Racing and Jake Hill collected their second double-victory performance of the season with back-to-back successes in races one and two helping Jake climb up into P3 in the Drivers’ Championship with three rounds of the season to go.
Jake and the team have fond memories of Donington Park, having scored pole position in the season opener in 2022 before going on to claim victory in race three, and earlier this year Jake got his season off to a successful start as he claimed a second place in race one and the fastest lap in race three of the opening round of the year.
Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport and Jake Hill head to round eight 3rd in the Drivers’ Championship, just thirteen points behind reigning champion Ingram, having collected four victories and eight podiums to take his tally of points up to 260 points.
Jake, in his WSR-run BMW 330e M Sport, will be looking to continue to close the gap in the championship fight this weekend as he aims to score big points and fight for race wins.
The action on track will begin on Saturday with a pair of free practice sessions being followed by the usual qualifying format at 15.40, which is available to watch live on Youtube and ITVX.
Being 3rd in the standings, Jake's hybrid allows him 5 seconds (per lap) in qualifying and three laps of hybrid use through race one - with the results of races one and two setting the hybrid allowance for the following race.
All three races take place on Sunday, with live coverage available on ITV4 and online at ITVX. The three races are scheduled for 11:45 (BST), 14:45, and 17:25 respectively. Live timing across the weekend is available here.
"We're all really excited and motivated for Donington Park this weekend! Heading into the final three rounds of the season, the year is reaching its crunch point and it's time to maximise every session and every race - we can't afford to leave anything out there! Knockhill was a fantastic weekend and the goal this weekend is to keep that winning momentum rolling into Donington Park.
Heading onto the GP layout, it's going to be a new challenge but one I'm really excited for and I think the layout will suit the characteristics of our rear-wheel drive BMW. WSR and Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport have had the car dialed in recently and my BMW 330e M Sport is feeling fantastic so a big thank you to them for their efforts!" - Jake Hill
"It's another big weekend for us in the BTCC. We need to take the winning momentum and lessons learned in Scotland to have an equally successful round at Donington this weekend. This is a circuit that we've enjoyed many memorable memories at in the past, and now heading onto the GP configuration, we're confident we can add some more!
With just three rounds remaining, every point is crucial for our championship efforts and there's no margin for error heading into the final leg of the season. Huge thanks to our partners and fans for their support as always, we hope to put on a great show for you this weekend! - Mark Blundell
