ROKiT MB Motorsport endured a testing weekend in the 2022 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship at Oulton Park. However, Jake Hill persisted to score points in all three races and remains 5th in Driver's Championship.
After a difficult qualifying for the #24 BMW 330e, which saw Jake impeded on a flying lap and two red flags, Jake started the first race of the weekend in 15th.
The ROKiT MB Motorsport driver made progress in race one, overtaking two cars to finish in 13th place. The race was not without its drama though, with Jake sandwiched at the start, sustaining damage to his front end and a loss of performance as a result.
With the tighter schedule at Oulton Park, the WSR crew worked tirelessly before the race and got the #24 ROKiT MB Motorsport out in the nick of time.
Jake Hill rewarded his crew with a sublime driver through the order. Starting in 13th place, Jake made several fantastic overtakes to cross the finishing in 7th, scoring strong points and putting himself in contention for a good starting position in the reverse grid race.
After the reverse grid draw was completed, Jake was handed a 6th place starting position for the final race of the day.
Getting a strong launch of the line, Jake was unfortunately forced out wide at turn one before a lock-up into the hairpin cost him several positions.
Determined to salvage his race, Jake posted the fastest lap of the race on lap 8 and made his way through the field to take 13th place - making it three points finishes across the day's racing and a total of twenty places gained.
Jake remains 5th in the Drivers' Championship, with 119 points, fifty points adrift of the championship leader.
“Overall it was a tough weekend for us,” Jake said. “We couldn't quite find the sweet spot with the car in practice and having our poor luck in qualifying didn't make things any easier. As the weekend went on though, the car felt better and better - especially in race two and race three, which showed our true potential. A huge thank you to the team for their efforts this weekend, especially the rebuild after race one. We're still in the hunt, and now we're even more motivated to get to Croft and get back to the front of the pack!."
Mark Blundell, Sporting Director of ROKiT MB Motorsport, added:
“A tricky weekend at Oulton Park but Jake and the team showed fantastic perseverance to keep pushing to still collect a good haul of points. Jake is still firmly in the fight and we're all extremely motivated to go again at Croft."
The team now head to Croft for the next phase of the 2022 campaign, set for the weekend of 25 - 26 June.
